The Class Struggles in France, 1848 to 1850 refers to a series of articles written in 1850 by Karl Marx for the Neue Rheinische Zeitung as a retrospective on the failed French Revolution of 1848. Marx briefly outlines a historical materialist class analysis of the factors in the revolution's outbreak, progression, and failure based on a study of French newspaper reports, writings from the Neue Rheinische Zeitung, and the accounts of eyewitnesses. The articles were later collected into one short work and feature in many collections of important Marxist writings.

Engels's 1895 introduction

The work is notable for its 1895 introduction by Friedrich Engels almost as much as its content. Writing years after Marx's death, Engels reflects on the changes in military science during and after the revolution which had made the revolutionary strategy of the turn of the century, such as barricades and street violence, totally obsolete.
