The first parameter simply tells the template which of the three sections – Marx's works, Engels's works, or the collaborations of both – should be expanded or collapsed. Typically the section that includes the work at hand should be expanded, but use your own judgement.

How to use

Leaving the parameter blank will expand all three:

Adding a parameter, such as Marx, will expand only that section.

Parameters are case insensitive. Or should be, anyway.

Options	Behavior
all both expanded	Whole template will expand. Also doable by leaving the parameter blank.
both‑only only‑both bothonly	Only the middle, comprising the two's collaborations, will expand.
marx marx‑only marxonly	Marx's works will expand.
engels engels‑only engelsonly	Engels's works will expand.
marx‑both marxboth	Marx's works, including his collaborations with Engels, will expand.
engels‑both engelsboth	Engels's works, including his collaborations with Marx, will expand.
