Capital, Volume I (1867) by Karl Marx is a critical analysis of bourgeois political economy meant to reveal the economic laws of the capitalist mode of production, specifically the internal tensions generating class struggle and, eventually, socialism. The first of three volumes of Das Kapital: Kritik der politischen Ökonomie ("Capital: A Critique of Political Economy"), it was published on 14 September 1867, and ended up being the only one published during Marx's lifetime. This volume is registered in the Memory of the World Programme of UNESCO together with manuscripts of The Communist Manifesto in June 2013.
