Capital: A Critique of Political Economy, Volume I: The Process of Production of Capital (1867) by Karl Marx is a critical analysis of bourgeois political economy meant to reveal the economic laws of the capitalist mode of production, specifically the internal tensions generating class struggle and, eventually, socialism. The first of three volumes of Das Kapital: Kritik der politischen Ökonomie ("Capital: A Critique of Political Economy"), it was published on 14 September 1867, and ended up being the only one published during Marx's lifetime.
