Maoism may refer to several schools of thought drawn from the ideas of Mao Zedong, including the following:
- Marxism–Leninism–Maoism, the most common modern meaning of "Maoist". Formalized by the Communist Party of Peru and Revolutionary Internationalist Movement.
- Mao Zedong Thought, referring to the theory and practice of Mao Zedong before and during the Cultural Revolution.
- Marxism–Leninism–Mao Zedong Thought, referring to the stated ideology of the Communist Party of China which draws from Mao's theory and practice while rejecting the Cultural Revolution.[1]
- Maoism–Third Worldism, referring to the synthesis of Mao Zedong Thought and Third Worldism which emerged from a split in the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement in the 1980s.

These erroneous “Left” theses, upon which Comrade Mao Zedong based himself in initiating the "cultural revolution", were obviously inconsistent with the system of Mao Zedong Thought, which is the integration of the universal principles of Marxism-Leninism with the concrete practice of the Chinese revolution. These theses must be clearly distinguished from Mao Zedong Thought.
