The Islamic Resistance Movement (Arabic: حركة المقاومة الإسلامية Ḥarakah al-Muqāwamah al-ʾIslāmiyyah), commonly known by the abbreviation Hamas (Arabic: حماس Ḥamās), is a Sunni Islamist political and military organization governing the Gaza Strip of the Palestinian territories.
