Neo-imperialism vs. neo-colonialism

These may warrant two separate articles. In my view, imperialism was not the same as colonialism in the first place - for instance, during the 19th century. Imperialism involves the assertion of economic control over weaker countries, through economic or physical force. Colonialism is a relation which typically involves non-capitalist regions being integrated in a way that cannot be explained within capitalist wage relations. The equation of the two implies that modern imperialist interference in economically weaker countries constitutes a continuation of colonialism, but even though this heuristic may apply in many cases, the specifically imperialist type of interference has also been discussed with relation to the Western treatment of, for example, the former Soviet Union - historically part of the Russian Empire which, while backward, was itself imperialist and expansionist, or even colonial, during the Age of Capital.

Any discussion here should be limited to whether there is a reasonable doubt about combining the two terms into one page, not about the nature of the two, or even whether you personally would equate them. Harrystein (talk) 15:40, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
