Rename to Trumpism

MAGA is only a slogan (which didn't even originate with this movement) and is at most only the movement itself, not the ideology. To represent the focus of this article on both Trump's movement and ideology, it should be renamed to Trumpism. RedParabola (talk) 03:24, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

I am not convinced that MAGA would die off without Trump. It was not destroyed or even crippled by Trump's electoral defeat in 2020 as some predicted, and its views on COVID policy, not to mention woke-ism, did not originate with Trump, who had to be brought in line with the movement (as I'm sure you well know, but regardless I append: 2021 versus 2024). As for your point about previous uses of "Make America Great Again", nearly all political slogans have precedents; this one refers to a faction which is best known by this name and referred to as such by the President (hence the citation, not because I somehow believe Joe Biden is the new Ernst Thälmann). I selected the title to be purposely vague so that it could encompass what is as of yet a purposely amorphous and anti-intellectual group, which as a result has no clear manifesto or policy platform. These are my views on the topic. I will not oppose a switch to "Trumpism" or "MAGAism" but, if a name change is warranted, I favor "MAGA movement". Harrystein (talk) 18:42, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
You're right, but the MAGA movement is overwhelmingly dominated by Trump and his supporters, and that's the group this article mostly covers. But for now, I would favor it being renamed to "MAGA movement" as it would better represent the scope of the article. ☭ Parabola ☭ Workers of the world, unite! 19:02, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
