Feminism is the struggle against the oppression imposed by traditional gender roles, especially as manifest against women.

Historically, feminism has been associated both with the radical left and more moderate liberal politics. Marxist conceptions of feminism have contributed immensely to socialism, as have female Marxists, but the dominant liberal form of feminism has historically been used to prop up nationalist and capitalist structures, as in the WW1 era 'white feather' campaign against the anti-war movement, and largely continues today to obstruct class consciousness between men and women through the application of identity politics
