The Democratic Party is a center-right imperialist political party in the United States and supposed rival of Republican Party. It was founded in 1828 by supporters of Andrew Jackson, strangely making it the oldest political party on Earth.[citation needed][clarification needed] Though according to the American Overton window, the Democrats are considered to be on the left of the political spectrum, and some Democrats, including Bernie Sanders, are considered far left according to this rubric. However, as understood by socialists, the Democrats are considered centrist or right wing. In the International political spectrum, Bernie Sanders is typically considered centrist and mainstream democrats are considered right-wing.
