Socialist state

There were many communist (actually socialist) governments in the 20th century, more than in any other century. The following article is intended as a list and analysis of these governments.

• People's Republic of Angola (República Popular de Angola) — until 1992
• People's Republic of Benin (République populaire du Bénin) — until 1990
• People's Republic of the Congo (République populaire du Congo) — until 1992
• People's Democratic Republic of Algeria — still exists, became a liberal democracy

• Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia (Федеративна Народна Република Југославија) — destroyed in a NATO-supported conflict in the 1990s
