Samir Amin (born 3 September 1931) is a contemporary Franco-Egyptian Marxist economist who is notable for his anti- and alter-globalist positions. He denounces the current economic order for placing the world in a periphery-core relationship to the western world. The American hegemony has put international institutions into place, including the European Union, with the express purpose of making socialism illegal and impossible.
