Noam Chomsky in 2003.

Avram Noam Chomsky (1928–) is a left-wing American academic, linguist, and author who is known most prominently for his criticism of United States imperialism and numerous works exposing it.[1] Ideologically, he is described as an anarcho-syndicalist and libertarian socialist more broadly, Chomsky first became critical of American foreign policy during its war in Vietnam. He has published a large number of books which expose the day-to-day activities and effects of American imperialism in detail. He has been the subject of countless interviews and public lectures.[2]

Chomsky has been the subject of criticism from other socialists, most prominently Marxists–Leninists, for his opposition to communist leaders and states, leading to some considering him to be part of the "compatible left."[3]
