New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa) is a semi-colonial capitalist state in the South Pacific. Its territory comprises of two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui) and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands, covering a total area of 268,021 square kilometres (103,500 sq mi). Its capital city is Wellington and its main economic hub is Auckland.
As of 2019 the country has a multi-ethnic albeit largely White-Settler population of 5,084,300 people (June 2020), and a developed yet undiversified First World economy with an annual GDP of 135 billion USD (2019). It is a member of the Imperial British Commonwealth but has been functionally independent, and therefore possessing its own robust bourgeoisie, since the 25th of November 1947.
