Christianity is a Religious identity that purports to be based on the teachings of Jesus Christ,[1] who is regarded to have a divine nature. It has historically been the dominant religion of Europe, and in various forms has been both a tool for oppression as well as the struggle against it. With the rise of Colonialism and Imperialism, the Christian religion was imposed on various other populations around the world by their colonial masters.

Major sects of Christianity include the Roman Catholic church in western Europe and its (ex-)colonial holdings, the Eastern Orthodox churches in eastern Europe, and various Protestant denominations, which originated as a revolt against Catholic corruption during early modernity. There are also numerous other minor sects which while not as influential as the 3 large sects but are still important to a minor extent.

Christianity is the largest religion in the world and the United States,[2] and therefore enjoys major influence to populations and politics. It has been found that majority of American Conservatives consider themselves very religious, and Christianity itself has a lot of power as to political beliefs. [3] Often Rightists will consider themselves Christians, which causes Christianity to often be associated with Rightism, but there are many leftist Christians, such as Leo Tolstoy, who considered Christianity inherently anarchist.[4] Tolstoy believed in a pacifist Christian anarchism:

The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution.

— Leo Tolstoy, [5]

and some Leftists claim that Jesus was a Socialist, often sourcing the verses Matthew 5:24, and Matthew 19:23-24.
