Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Revoliutsiina Povstanska Armiia Ukrainy) was the main fighting force of anarchists in Ukraine during Makhno's Uprising. Much of the equipment was obtained from the retreating armies of Central Powers. It popularised and conventionalized the famous tachanka. Under the command of Nestor Makhno, the Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine defeated White Army in south Russia and controlled much of southern Ukraine before the Bolsheviks conquered and defeated Makhnovshchina, forcing RIAU staff to flee.[1]
