Julian Assange is an award-winning journalist and human rights activist best known as the founder of WikiLeaks. He has been persecuted by the United States regime for exposing the mass war crimes and atrocities of the empire.

In 2012, Ecuador's social democratic president Rafael Correa granted Assange asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, UK, to prevent his likely extradition to the US on charges of espionage. However, in April 2019, Ecuadorian president Lenín Moreno revoked Assange's asylum, and he was detained in Belmarsh high-security prison awaiting extradition. In June 2024, British attorneys on the case advised the US prosecution that their case was likely to fail, driving the US to accept Assange's initial offer for a plea deal.[1] He was sentenced to 62 months in prison, equivalent to the time he had already been held in Belmarsh without trial.[2]
